Chef Lura in her kitchen

Hi, I’m Chef Lura, the chef behind Recipe With Chef. I trained at the Institute of Culinary Education (ICE) and have spent more than 20 years cooking in professional kitchens.

This site is where I translate what I learned on the line into recipes you can confidently make at home, on a weeknight, with ingredients from a regular grocery store.

My Culinary Training and Experience

My foundation comes from culinary school at ICE, where I learned classical technique: knife skills, stocks and sauces, heat control, and how to build flavor in layers.

Two decades of professional cooking turned that training into instinct. Restaurant kitchens teach you to taste at every stage, to prep before you cook, and to understand why a technique works so you can fix a dish when something goes wrong.

Those are exactly the lessons I build into every recipe on this site.

Why I Started Recipe With Chef

Many recipes online tell you what to do but not how to tell when it’s right. Home cooks end up guessing: Is the pan hot enough? Is the chicken done? Why did my sauce split?

I started Recipe With Chef to close that gap. My recipes include the sensory cues professional cooks rely on (what to look for, smell, and hear) so you can cook with the same confidence.

What You’ll Find Here

My Recipe Standards

  • Every recipe is written by me, based on my own cooking experience.
  • Steps include clear visual and sensory cues, not just times.
  • Substitutions are explained, including why they work and what changes.
  • I update recipes when readers report problems or when I find a better method.

Where I’m Based

I live and cook in New Jersey, USA, where I develop and photograph the recipes you see on this site.
